098: Simple Solutions for Minimizing Toxins in Your Home w/ Tonya Harris, MSHN

Human biology is an amazing thing in that it is equipped to deal with stress in small doses. The problem is, we are dumping way too much stress on our poor little bodies in this day and age, largely due to lifestyle choices.

The Grace & Grit podcast is fast approaching the 100th episode and while we have discussed mental, emotional and physical stress intensely, I have only had a few guests on the show to dish out tips on managing environmental and chemical stress. So, I am thrilled to have Tonya Harris on the show today.

Tonya Harris is Board Certified in Holistic Nutrition® and graduated from Hawthorn University with a Master of Science in Holistic Nutrition.

Today one of the primary focuses of Tonya’s work is to educate people (parents in particular) on how easy it can be to have a safer, more non-toxic home through safer brands to buy, how to read product labels for hidden toxins, and how to do it on a budget. She does this through working with clients both individually and through the online program she created, “The Healthy Home Project.” She has been writing about the health implications of common chemicals in our homes and their effects on our children since 2008, and now blogs on her website at Healthy Home, Happy Family.

More about today’s guest:

Tonya Harris is an Environmental Toxin Specialist and founder and CEO of Slightly Greener, the place to be for moms who want to reduce toxins without having to toss their mascara, lay off their favorite Ice-cream or DIY their kids’ shampoo.

She’s an advocate for keeping detoxifying life simple, doable and mom friendly. Because if you’re like other moms, you’re horrified to discover modern family life is riddled with toxins. It scared the pop tarts out of ya! But here’s what Tonya believes:

Mom-guilt is as toxic as the 3,000+ food additives we’re being fed everyday through our favorite foods. So before exterminating rubber ducky and going ca-razy… hop over to  www.slightlygreener.com and pick up the tiny changes you can make today, that’ll make a massive impact over time.

Besides an Environmental Toxin Specialist, Tonya Harris is a board certified Holistic Nutritionist, a mom of three and a childhood cancer survivor. She’s is the founder of Clubs to Cure Kids, and has donated over $160,000 to childhood cancer research and family support programs.

Say it with me “my body is NOT the problem!”

Ahhh…doesn’t it feel great to release the chains you’ve lived with for so long?

It’s true that the wellness and diet industry wants you to believe that your body is broken—that it needs to be fixed, resculpted, and forced into looking a certain way.

The Power Years Coaching is all about ditching that narrative and nourishing your body consistently. This is what provides the jumping off point for a life of self-leadership, trust in your wonderful body, and peace knowing you’re making the most of your second act.
